Blade Runner Enhanced Edition Coming to Switch/PS4/XO and Steam Later This Year; Features Updated Character Models and Animations, Widescreen Support and More
An enhanced version of the 1997 classic Blade Runner, Blade Runner Enhanced, is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam later on this year.
Production company Alcon Entertainment and development studio Nightdive Studios have partnered up to bring a polished and premium restoration of the title to consoles and PC. Originally developed past Command and Conquer studio, Westwood, the bespeak-and-click gamble follows detective Ray McCoy as he hunts downwards renegade replicants in an alternating version of 2022 Los Angeles.
The enhanced version of Blade Runner will feature updated character models, cutscenes, animations, enhanced translations, back up for widescreen, controllers and keyboard, and more.
Interesing to notation is that the original source lawmaking for the game was lost when the now-defunct Westwood Studios moved to Los Angeles in 2003 equally part of the merger with Electronic Arts. Contrary-engineering was used to restore the code and bring the title to consoles.
"Information technology's true that the original Blade Runner source code was lost," says Larry Kuperman, head of business concern development at Nightdive. "We painstakingly reverse-engineered the lawmaking, importing it into our own KEX engine, a powerful tool that allows us to practise console ports of archetype titles, fifty-fifty in the face up of quite challenging situations."
"Blade Runner is still a jaw-dropping accomplishment on every level, so while we're using KEX to upgrade the graphics and respectfully elevate the gaming experience in a manner you lot've never seen earlier, we're even so preserving Westwood'southward vision and gameplay in all its celebrity," says Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick. "While you lot can enjoy the benefits of playing the game on modern hardware, the game should wait and experience not as it was, but every bit glorious as you remember information technology being."
Bract Runner Enhanced is expected to release for PC (via Steam) and consoles afterward this year.
